I Feel... Refined.
The City Without People

Bowling went well... Eric would be proud of me...
I didn’t actually bowl, but I was social... Had dinner (or a “post dinner meal”) at the mall where the bowling alley was. It was my first McDonald’s. And it wasn’t bad at all. The burgers are better here than in the US, but the fries are lacking.
And everything has bubbles. Why you would carbonate perfectly good spring water is beyond me, but that’s what they do here.
Last night was also my first time on the underground. It’s a great system here... but the escalators are scary. More to come on that in another entry.
This morning we rose early to sign up for trips. I got my first choice of overnight trip, a trip to northern Bohemia and a region that was annexed by Germany back during WWII. I didn’t get my first choice of day trip, the caves, but my second choice was this particular church with human bone chandeliers. Sounds wicked cool. Both should provide to be great trips for photography. Finally I’ll break out the SLR and shoot some film.
So that was at 8am... but class doesn’t start until 10... So I went to the French place to have a croissant and some orange juice. I felt so sophisticated sitting in a restaurant in Prague alone eating breakfast writing my thoughts in my Moleskine notebook. Breakfast was on the expensive side, at 93 crowns, but it was worth it. On my way through town I shot the picture at the top here... The city is empty in the morning... It’s really nice.
After breakfast I went to the post office to mail another letter. The post office here is so much less painful than in the US... Aside from the fact that they don’t speak English.
Oh well.
My last Czech class went well, afterward I headed home, stopping along the way to pick up a slice of pizza at one of the local roadside pizza/food stands. You could literally eat your way through this town... traveling from pizza stand to sausage stand, and everything in between. My mother will love it here... There is always food to eat when your hungry at those strange hours...
I also tried to have my travelers checks changed to crowns, but the woman at the bank was curt, spoke only Czech, and wouldn’t accept the copy of my passport and my passport card as valid ID. Again I look like a fool.
Upon my arrival home I pulled my laundry together, and went downstairs. The washing machines are font loading, but can only fit maybe 4 days of clothes. I did one load today, I’ll finish tomorrow. The dryers are strange. Don’t get me started. I have my shirts drying in my skylight because I don’t trust the settings on the dryer not to shrink my dress clothes.
While my clothing was washing I went out to the bank down the way. Even though I’m not in the tourist area they spoke perfect English and were more than happy to help me. Go Figure. After 15 minutes of paperwork the checks were cash. Thank god. It’s mostly a cash system here...
My AMEX Card needed a break anyways...
Thus here I am. I go to the philharmonic tonight, which is going to be awesome.
I’ll be WAY overdressed though. WHO CARES. I’ll look slick.
Tomorrow I’ll try and finish up the stuff on my to-do-list, and take it easy. It’s Saturday after all. I’ll also try and make a trip over the river to see if I can get tickets for the organ concert this Sunday at the Church of Saint Nicholas in the Lesser Town Square.
Enjoy the Day... and if your in New England the hurricane...
