A Crash Course in Prague
My First Opera

Thank God it’s Thursday.
Today It was early up to finish filling out my Russian visa paperwork and hope that it doesn’t get rejected. But I’m getting ahead of myself... because my day started when I slammed my skull into the wall next to my bed.
Evidently my depth perception doesn’t work in my sleep.
At any rate during art and architecture today we wandered thru parts of the city to visit a couple of gothic churches. This class has to be one of the coolest classes I’ve ever taken. Where else to you walk out of the classroom and into a city to look at the art and architecture first hand?
Lunch was a steak and cheese... Just couldn’t resist. Neither could the peppers and onions.
Phototography. I nearly fell asleep. To the point where I began to slide off my desk. His voice just slowly puts me down... It’s soothing. But it’s class too... Life is such a catch-22/
Tonight was the Opera. It was amazing. Alexis and I had our own row of two seats, so it was like a private box. The acoustics in the building are incredible. The singing was pitchy at times, but the orchestra was spot on. It was kind of goofy too. The set was also a marvel, consisting of sliding flats on a raised platform. With three that could be flown to give different effects. The seats were comfortable, but the intermissions were unbearable.
There were two. After the stupid half hour awards ceremony at the beginning, we had an intermission that lasted nearly 30 minutes after an act that was 55. And then repeated the 30 minute process after another 45 minute act. It was a little much.
But the atmosphere was amazing. It was opening night. And the house was beautiful. The crown molding was exceptionally striking...
It takes a lot for me to get excited about crown molding.
Well maybe not that much... but that’s not the point. After the show Alexis and I went in search of a piece of chocolate cake, succeeding in this process, we headed home.
Tomorrow I have to get up early to go on a day trip to Kutna Hora. I’ll have all the details when I get back, but for now, its off to bed.
By the way... The picture at the top is of a feather that magically appeared next to my bed the other day... I guess I’m sleeping with the pigeons when I leave the skylight open at night...
