A Crash Course in Prague

My World is Shattered...

...I ran out of lead for my pencil.

While this may not seem like the disaster you may have been thinking of, it’s pretty bad.

Consider this: first I have to find more lead. Tomorrow is Sunday and everything is closed here. Hopefully Tesco will have what I need, but that’s a 20 plus minute tram ride.

Secondly I was making process in my reading. But I have to stop because I refuse to take notes in my book in ink.

Strange I know. A book that I’m not going to erase the markings anyways, I refuse to write in anything but pencil. Same deal with my journal. Pencil only.

So lead is the first priority for tomorrow. It’s for my Parker pencil that Peter gave to me. Speaking of Peter, a special congratulations. He finished the closet. And there’s still plenty of time to get all the stuff back into it before Thanksgiving! This closet story is a long one. But I’ll give the Spark Notes version.

Phase 1: I get a phone call one Friday night while working. It’s Peter. He says that he has “an electrical bug” with some wiring in his house. I tell him that I’ll be over at 1am, after I get out of work. I arrive at 1. He hands me a glass of brandy on the rocks, and we get to work. After a little over an hour we figure out the problem. Connect and solder the right wires together (because we didn’t have wire nuts) and by 3 were all done. That was phase 1.

Phase 2: I get another phone call. I go over, and we remove a wall. Go out and buy new lumber and frame the closet according to the proper building codes. Drink some more brandy. Call it a night.

Phase 3: rework the plaster. Chris leaves for Prague. Peter is left with a partial closet. Peter drinks brandy alone.

Phase 4: Plaster the closet. Keep spackle out of brandy while plastering.

Phase 5: Shelve the closet, using a level for correct measurements. After measurements have been made, then pour glass of brandy.

Phase 6: Drink brandy and put everything back in the closet.

Now according to my source (Peter (sorry I had to give you up)) the closet is at phase 5. Thus the picture at the top is of Phase 5. Congrats.

And that’s about it. The exciting part of my day was the store. The saddest part is my pencil. And tomorrow I get to do it all over again.

Russia in 4 days!
