A Crash Course in Prague
Another Week in the Books
The first week of classes is over, and I’m still alive.
Pretty good.
I certainly do have my work cut out for me. Today in art and architecture we went on a walk to see part of the city that is underground. Somehow they raised the level of the ground in the Old Town, thus burying the first floors of all the buildings. The picture a the top is from one of these buried floors. It is actually part of a glass museum, and this is a piece of the work that is on show there.
Photo is going to be a blast. We went to buy cameras today.
Don’t worry Mom and Dad. I didn’t buy another camera. Or lens. Thought about the lenses though.
I instead was the “moral support” for those other photographers buying their first film camera.
Media criticism is going to be a blood bath. As all of you know I am extremely opinionated, and have some beliefs that are contrary to the popular, liberal, point of view. My background in sociology from Dean has also put me into hot water.
You see I’m a bit of a functionalist: thus if something exists in society, it exists for a reason. This includes sociological phenomenon's such as racism, stereotypes, and sexism.
Let me clarify and say that I am not a supporter of all these things; they are however functional and exist in society for a reason.
This topic reappeared at dinner, where I was almost strangled.
Too bad I’m not a Smurf. You know, very blue.
Dinner tonight was absolutely awesome. It was a t-bone pork chop and a chicken kebab with fries. Very flavorful.
This weekend I’m heading to northern Bohemia with the school. With any luck the weather will cooperate and it will be a perfect opportunity to photograph the countryside.
Myron (from Dean) will also be arriving this weekend. So I’ll have the chance to have dinner with him at some point early next week. Funny how small the world actually is.
A treat when I come back will be a photo essay: The ten best things about Prague, and the ten things I miss about home.
I have my first blister. It’s not to bad, but a blister none the less.
This will be my last entry before late Saturday night (Saturday afternoon/evening for all you folks in the States... which is pretty much all of you) so enjoy your Friday!
