Goodbye, My Friends.

...So I was woken every hour between 3pm and 8am to say goodbye to friends who were leaving. I have fleeting glimpses from this fragmented and hardly restful sleep...

At 8 I was thrown from bed to go down and say goodbye to the largest group of people leaving for the Airport. I bundled up, and went out. I hopped on the bus to say goodbye to several people who were already onboard, before hopping off to say goodbye to Jack who was about to hop on.

I never thought Jack and I would end up as such good friends, or such good roommates. He put it best, when this past weekend, he called us “symbiotic.” We just worked. I had what he needed, I had what he needed. If nothing else, leaving this experience with Jack’s friendship made it worthwhile.

We waved goodbye, and myself and the RA’s who were freezing went inside. Lenka joined me in my common area while I choked back tears. The apartment was empty, I was the only one left. The building was quiet, as there were only about four of us left to leave.

Ironic how I was the first to arrive... And it seems as though I will be the last to leave. It’s a rewarding feeling, yet sad as well. Everyone is leaving me; Yet I am leaving Veronika, Pavlina, and Lenka.... Among so many others.

I went back to bed around 9, to try and sleep some more. I woke up at 1ish, again, not rewarded with any restful sleep.

And I packed... And packed some more. At 4pm Lenka helped me down the stairs, and we hopped into the cab that I had called for to take us into town so I could drop my stuff. After fighting through the traffic we arrived in Malá Strana, where I dropped my bags and Lenka and I hustled to the NYU center before the closed. I dropped my readers, and headed back across the bridge to get my family, to walk back across the bridge to get dinner.

I took them to an “upscale” Czech pub, which is more of a Czech concept restaurant. Dinner was great, but completely emotionally, mentally, and physically drained, we headed back to the apartment for me to get my first real night of sleep in several days... Bed at 11pm. I can’t even calculate how much sleep I have had or lost over the last 24 hours, so for now, I’ll just stop counting.

The photo at the top is of the Microcosm, at least fragments of us... In Kinder Surprise Egg figures...

I left them on my desk in Jaurisova for Veronika.
